CheckMate Chess Certificates

As children develop, their skills and knowledge, this should be recognised by some form of certificate. Here at CheckMate Chess we offer a straight-forward system of Bronze, Silver and Gold Certificates. Give us a call if you want to enter your pupils and we can arrange things. We will send the appropriate question papers, mark them for you and send out certificates for a small fee. The Bronze certificate is aimed at near-beginners, Silver for Intermediate juniors and passing the Gold certificate requires pupils to be playing at roughly the same level as a BCF 100-rated player. Sample papers are available on request.

CDPSCA Congress, March, 2011

We hope to repeat the success of last year’s event which involved around 170 children. All abilities are welcome though children should have a thorough knowledge of the rules of chess. Everyone will play 7 games during the day and there will be prizes for several of the best performers.

Parents should note please arrival time is 8.45 am ready to start Round 1 at 9:00am and late arrivals will forfeit the first round. Children should listen to the rules about breaktimes and follow staff instructions please with sensible behaviour. Children should wear labelled school uniform with trainers on their feet for playing outside between rounds. They should bring a labeled packed lunch and a drink and perhaps some change for the tuckshop. There will also be a quiet area available between games so children can also bring something to do between games.

Children should be collected at 3:15 pm from the Library. The cost is £5 per child which should be paid to your chess teacher. Chess Teachers please note this year a list of pupils entering should be sent to Martin Cole but also a copy to Maria Bailey, and a representative from each school should be on site by 8:30 to start receiving children.

Further Details & entry details for any of the above events can be obtained from calling Ivan on 01242-577215
